Up in the Clouds

So today to celebrate our last day of spring break (which had been rained out) we decided to go hiking out at Lake Conasauga. We drove out past Bear Creek and made it about half way up the mountain and it had been raining so much the roads were destroyed. We barely made it through one patch of mud thinking it was just a bad spot in the road and then right around the corner was another bad patch. So we had to turn around and try to go back up. We almost didn't make it. So we went hiking at Bear Creek instead. But the distance we did make it up the mountain was breathtaking. The rain had made everything really green. And the rain clouds were still hovering around the tops of the mountains, so we got to drive through the clouds. It was beautiful.

Frauniebarger Friday

So I missed last Frauniebarger Friday, but I have a good reason, they had a show and I was actually out watching them instead of writing about them. Here is a bloopers video for their first video "Meet Frauniebarger." I'm still having problems with boxstr so I can't upload a song, but their entire album is available for download for free on their website. You can also purchase a copy of it for those of you who like to have one for the collection.

Beware the Homosexual

Wow...I can't even begin to tell you all the things that are wrong with this film, and in no way do I agree with the message. But it's probably the funniest thing I've watched all week (aside from The Office). Check it out:

One more thing...

I was watching Winnie the Pooh on the Disney channel this morning (yes, I still love Winnie the Pooh) and it went to a commercial break, which for the Disney channel means more shameless self-promotion. This music video comes on for the Imagination Movers; now I don't live at home with my little sisters anymore so I'm totally out of the little kid shows loop, but I find it hard to believe nobody else has mentioned this yet. One of the guys is kinda hot!

(the one on the far left- AKA: Mover Scott)

This could just be attributed to my weird obsession for guys with longer than normal hair (which started when I was about 9 and I had a crush on my friend's mom's boyfriend who had just gotten out of jail, he had hair like Barbie). But doesn't he look like that guy in high school who played drums and was abnormally funny. Not since my weird crush on Greg Page from the Wiggles have I watched such lame shows for the sake of a hot guy who could only be considered hot when placed on a children's show next to three other guys who could not in any way even be considered hot.

(the one in the yellow shirt)

So go ahead and laugh, but I know all the ladies out there are gonna be TiVo-ing this shit later.

Cat Nap Monday

Another lovely cat nap Monday. I laid on the couch wrapped up in a comforter and put on Dead Poets Society and was out like a light. Not that I dislike that movie, it's a really good movie, but I was really tired. Here are a couple of songs from my Princess and the Pea playlist. I generally use these to go to sleep or study b/c they are less distracting. Mum is a group from Iceland that has a unique sound. I find this song particularly calming. This particular song was featured in the movie Wicker Park. If you have not seen that movie I highly recommend it. Nine Inch Nails is generally not a band you expect to have a song that is peaceful enough to put you to sleep, but this song from their album The Slip is a beautiful little piano piece with lyrics so soft they almost take a back seat to the music itself.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Today I celebrated Dr.Seuss' birthday by watching the classic "The Lorax." Not only did Dr.Seuss write some of the greatest children's books of all time, but he was incredibly inspirational.

"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." ~Dr. Seuss

The Lorax:

Here is a weird song I found that mixed up clips of songs from the movie. It will put you in a Loraxy trance.

Frauniebarger Friday

Here is a little introduction video for Frauniebarger. You'll have to excuse the bad quality on their first vids, I didn't have a lot to work with. I thought I might start doing a Frauniebarger Friday series to show love to my fav. band that's trying to get their name out there a little more. Here is the first song on their album "Graverobbers."

Kate Bush

So I did get something done the other day. I cleaned. And I've been cleaning for the past couple of days and it still looks like a hobo lives here. However, I did find my camera (phew!). I should never have gone for the sleek and slim camera. I'm always setting it down somewhere and it disappears. What I really need to be doing right now is homework. I just can't make myself do it. This class I'm taking is bullshit. Every assignment feels like those busy work worksheets you got in the fourth grade because your teacher didn't know what to do with you. And the one that is due in two days is particularly tedious and annoying. Anyway, as you may have noticed from the last blog, I finally figured out how to post mp3's. I was pretty excited. So I think I will post another favorite of mine today. I have been listening to Kate Bush since I was born. I think not enough people know about her here in the States. As a friend once told me, "I imagine that soon the whole world will know what your mom and I already know...that Kate Bush is the virgin Mary..." Yes, she is that good. She was actually discovered by David Gilmour, yeah. Here is one of her earlier songs "Wuthering Heights." This song helped launch her career and it is a great song based on a great book. Enjoy.

Cat Nap Monday

I'm really, really bad at updating this thing. You know I used to be really good at this. I kept numerous journals from 4th grade till about 10th grade. You know, until boys were more important than writing. That's when I lost it. Since then I have not been able to keep a steady journal of any type. But I am really gonna give this one the old college try again. Because I really do love to write. And I think it's important to have an outlet like this. So today I am skipping school. I do this pretty much every Monday b/c I only have one class on campus on Mondays. And Chase's band practices on Monday nights right around the time I have class. So I just skip Monday's so they can practice at a decent hour. However, this gives me lots of free time to do as I please with the place to myself. Which I usually end up wasting on extended cat naps. So I'm gonna try and do something constructive today. Wish me luck.

"I Take Your Hand"

Frauniebarger has finished their first music video. I shot it and edited it for them a few weeks ago. I just wanted to post it up here since it is taking up a lot of my time, too. If you like it they have a youtube channel: www.youtube.com/Frauniebarger
I do all their videos for them, I have three or four more lined up, but my internet is being ridiculous and I've been trying to load the next video for like a week and it refuses to do it. So I'm gonna try someone else's computer. Hopefully I can get that done by tomorrow. But in the mean time enjoy this one!

Frauniebarger

So I wanted to post a blog about my fiance's band Frauniebarger. Yes, Frauniebarger (frawn-e-bar-ger). They play indie rock. It's really good stuff and I think that if people are willing to give it a chance then they will really do well. You can listen to their music on http://www.myspace.com/Frauniebarger. It's good stuff!

Yeah...

Hmmm..So I'm not really good at keeping up with these things. I had the intention of starting a mp3 blog in which I could share good music with good people. But I never could figure out how to put the links for direct download on here, so if anybody knows please let me know. But lately I've just been starved for an outlet of some sort. Sometimes I draw or paint, but I really hate dragging out all the art tools when my room is a mess already. And my room is definately a mess. We just moved into my fiance's parents house about a month ago. It's really different and weird. I enjoy not having to work everyday, but it really sucks moving from an apartment on your own to a single room in your in-laws house. So with the free time on my hands from not working I have succeeded in doing nothing. Our room is still littered with boxes and our dirty laundry basket is still full. So I am going to try and be constant with this thing. I'll probably be able to keep it up until school starts in a week. I'm only taking three classes at the University this semester so it shouldn't be too bad. Three classes was about all I could afford anyway with all the fees they tack on this year. $140 parking fee and I don't even own a car. What a joke. I have been able to get some reading done this summer.

I know, this book is so two years ago. But I have been working on reading every book ever written by V.C. Andrews for the past couple of years. I nearly succeeeded this summer, but ran out of funds to continue this mission of mine. So I started reading other books I had collected to read when I had finished. This book I actually got at a thrift store (my favorite place for finding books) for like 75 cents. Anyway, back to the actual book. I loved it! I had seen the movie, which is pretty good. I don't entirely believe the whole book. I understand it's a memoir and people have been debating the validity of modern day memoirs lately (especially with A Million Little Pieces). But I found it very entertaining, and that's what I want my books to do, entertain me. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is read this book, you won't be sorry.

The next book I read is

I really enjoyed this book. I recommend reading this one before you read Running With Scissors. Not because it wasn't just as good, but after reading the crazy and insane story of Augusten Burroughs, Dave Sedaris' life is like a children's bedtime story.

Anywaaay, those are just a couple of the better titles I read this summer that I would recommend to you good people.

Happy Easter!

So yes, it was technically Easter yesterday. But it being Easter and all I was a little busy. I love holidays. I feel so bad for my parents who are going through a rough time right now and still manage to make every holiday as good as it always was. My mom is one of the strongest people I know. But anyway, Happy Easter to all!

Bored and Alone

I always hate first entries in journals or blogs or whatever. I mean if you just start writing people are like who the hell is this and why do I care? But trying to tell you about myself is such a daunting task. So I don't think I'm gonna try. If you have a question about me you may ask me. Otherwise, you can just read what I have to say.
First off, I'm home alone in my apartment today and feeling really lonely. This is amplified by the fact that I got into a fight with my neighbors the other day. I mean if shit is gonna go down I'd like to think I could handle it myself, but having my boyfriend or roommate with me certainly boosts that confidence.
So the other day I came home from work and laid down on the couch. I was super tired and decided to take a nap. Our neighbors were apparently in a bad mood because they were slamming doors all throughout their apartment like all day. Everytime I would start to fall asleep they would slam a door and wake me up. I finally just got up and decided to watch tv instead. I mean I think I was being pretty cool about the whole thing. I figured they were just fighting or something and I was gonna leave them alone. But they continued to slam door for the rest of the day. I'm talking about the next 6-7 hours. My roommate Derek gets home from work at like 10ish and we were sitting around in the living room talking. They slammed like 6 doors in a span of 60 seconds and I finally lost my shit. We went upstairs and slammed our doors like 2-3 times. Just as a "Hey, everytime you slam a door this is what I'm hearing and its getting really old." type thing. Then he (and by he I mean a good 'ol southern redneck type guy) slams his door like three times in a row. We started laughing, because we were still taking all this pretty lightly. I mean were could have been totally bitchy people and just called the lanlord or the cops or something, but we're pretty chill neighbors. He hears us laughing and freaks out. He's like, "You think that's funny? You better quit laughing!!" Then he proceeds to throw something at the wall and/or punch the wall where we were standing. I'm like now he's threatening us, this isn't cool anymore. So now it's on with the neighbors. I mean, really, it's not cool that I couldn't sleep he was slamming his doors so loudly allllll day long. And instead of calling the landlord I slammed my door like twice and he pitched a fit like a little 4 year old with a temper.
Annywaaay, for those of you who are interested, the new Death Cab for Cutie album is coming out very soon. May 13th to be exact. Their first single, I Will Possess Your Heart, has been released and is up to buy on iTunes. I love it! I think it's great. The intro slowly incorporates every instrument leading up to a great tune. The lyrics are amazing and Gibbard really delivers them. I first listened to it on Stereogum and was appalled at some of the comments people were writing.

"the song's alright... but those vocals are awful. yeah very much "gibbardisms" i guess, but what's with his delivery on this one?"

"This song is every bland piano ballad from Plans crammed into one.
Hopefully this gets it out of their system and the rest of the album is GOOD."

"Is this track an April Fool's joke? Miserable DOA effort from these usually more reliable geeks."

First off, I hate the fact that people keep refering to his lyrics as "Gibbardisms" or "Gibbardish." He writes songs full of meaningful lyrics and imagery. He isn't the only person in the world who does this. Also his vocals are pretty steady throughout most of his work. If you don't like the vocals to one song then you just don't like his voice so get over it and listen to something else. How can you call it a bland piano ballad? It slowly leads up the piano in the intro. It sounds very different from their Plans stuff. And the only April Fools joke here, is the fact that you were born. Bleh. Now that I've said that take a listen for yourself and let me know what you think.
